Potential cytochrome P450-mediated pharmacokinetic interactions between herbs, food, and dietary supplements and cancer treatments

چکیده

Herbs, food and dietary supplements (HFDS), can interact significantly with anticancer drug treatments via cytochrome p450 isoforms (CYP) CYP3A4, CYP2D6, CYP1A2, CYP2C8. The objective of this review was to assess the influence HFDS compounds on these cytochromes. Interactions CYP activities were searched for 189 herbs products, 72 in Web Knowledge® databases. Analyses made from 140 3125 clinical trials 236 3374 vitro, animal model studies or case reports. 18 found report direct interactions between 9 8 drugs. 21 a major metabolic pathway many All 261 classified their interaction main cytochromes P450 involved metabolism We provided an easy-to-use colour-coded table easily match potential 117

Pharmacokinetic Interactions of Herbs with Cytochrome P450 and P-Glycoprotein

The concurrent use of drugs and herbal products is becoming increasingly prevalent over the last decade. Several herbal products have been known to modulate cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes and P-glycoprotein (P-gp) which are recognized as representative drug metabolizing enzymes and drug transporter, respectively. Thus, a summary of knowledge on the modulation of CYP and P-gp by commonly used her...

Pharmacokinetic Interactions between Drugs and Botanical Dietary Supplements.

The use of botanical dietary supplements has grown steadily over the last 20 years despite incomplete information regarding active constituents, mechanisms of action, efficacy, and safety. An important but underinvestigated safety concern is the potential for popular botanical dietary supplements to interfere with the absorption, transport, and/or metabolism of pharmaceutical agents. Clinical t...

Interactions of herbs with cytochrome P450.

A resurgence in the use of medical herbs in the Western world, and the co-use of modern and traditional therapies is becoming more common. Thus there is the potential for both pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic herb-drug interactions. For example, systems such as the cytochrome P450 (CYP) may be particularly vulnerable to modulation by the multiple active constituents of herbs, as it is well k...

Cytochrome P450 and P-Glycoprotein-Mediated Interactions Involving African Herbs Indicated for Common Noncommunicable Diseases

Herbal remedies are regularly used to complement conventional therapies in the treatment of various illnesses in Africa. This may be because they are relatively cheap and easily accessible and are believed by many to be safe, cause fewer side effects, and are less likely to cause dependency. On the contrary, many herbs have been shown to alter the pharmacokinetics of coadministered allopathic m...

Pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic interactions between herbs and western drugs

In recent years, the combined use of Herbal medicines and Western drugs has been increasing. Though certain problems may occur when both types of medicines are taken together, they have not been adequately analyzed. It was reported that anticoagulation was enhanced in addition to bleeding when patients took long-term warfarin therapy in combination with Salvia miltiorrhiza (danshen), and laxati...
